The city of Two Rivers is mourning the loss of a favorite son. Scott (Scotty) Paulow died unexpectedly at his home recently.
He was 65.
Paulow, who dealt with cerebral palsy his entire life, was a dedicated statistician on radio sports broadcasts on WQTC, WCUB and WOMT for more than 40 years.
He also kept Two Rivers weather statistics for the WOMT morning show for many years.
But, Scotty will be remembered most as the number one fan of all sports teams for the Purple Raiders, dating back to the coaching days of Jerry Bonino and Bill Wood.
Current Two Rivers football coach Kevin Shillcox was a close friend.
“You know Scotty was very supportive,” Shillcox described. “That is what he lived for. If you talked to him on the phone weekly, you could hear it in his voice. He was ready to go to every game, every event he could get to. And just an unselfish person. He never let his health condition be an issue.”
The coach also mentioned Paulow was a great friend, saying after a loss he would always get a call over the weekend from him and his first comment was “Kevin I feel so bad for you.
He really took it personally, really cared about you and that was so unique about Scotty.
He really cared about everybody.”
Shillcox said Scotty has been on bus rides with the Raiders every year he’s been coach “and the players lost that too.”
They realize the magnitude of a person like that in the community.”
“He always looked forward when I got up to do the radio that he wanted a big hug from me, especially after big games and it always seemed to be the Kiel game,” said Shillcox. “I can remember in 2016 that Level-3 (win) he wouldn’t let go of me. And, then this past win against Kiel here in Two Rivers was special because it was my last hug with Scotty. But, he held on pretty tight and for it to end like that is pretty sad.”
Funeral arrangements for Scotty Paulow are pending.
