A retired Manitowoc Police K9 Major has passed away. He retired in 2022 after starting with the department in 2015.
Manitowoc Police say he was used at many traffic stops, building searches, tracks, evidence searches, SWAT, and METRO dog assists.
He got one last chance to demonstrate his talents at last week’s K9 Officer conference in Manitowoc the day before he passed.
He was diagnosed with cancer in 2020 and was only given 4 to 6 months to live with treatment.
However, he defined the odds of living almost 2 and a half years longer than expected.
Major was able to enjoy retirement with his family after his service.
The police department thanked Major for all his service and hoped he would see other former police K9s in heaven.
