A Manitowoc Lincoln High School runner placed 1st over the weekend in the Boy’s race at the Fond du Lac Memorial Cross Country Invitational.
Caleb Jatczak of the Ships crossed the finish line in 16:37 to win the 5k race by 5 seconds over runner-up Caleb Rechlicz from Menomonee Falls.
According to Coach Michael Bubolz, Jatczak took the lead at the start of the race and made great strategic decisions mid-race to position himself to secure the victory.
The Lincoln boys wound up 6th scoring 147 points with a number of their athletes posting their best times of the season.
Germantown won the invite with 60 points followed by Neenah in 2nd place.
Meanwhile, the Ships finished 5th in the Girl’s division with 105 points.
The Manitowoc squad was led by Natalie Portmann in 10th place in a time of 20:16, followed closely by teammates Kendall Schmitz 16th in 20:42, and Sarah Bolchen 21st in a time 20:59.
The girls team champion was Homestead followed by Stevens Point.
