Olivia Minikel of Manitowoc Lincoln is heading back to the WIAA State Individual Tennis Tournament as a Sectional champion.
The Ships senior posted straight-set victories in each of her 3 Singles matches Thursday in the Oshkosh North Sectional, held at Fox Cities Racquet Club in Appleton.
Minikel opened with a victory over Brooke Koebel of West Bend East, followed that up with a win over Ava Andrae of Cedarburg, and then claimed the tournament title in the finals against Kimberly’s Julia Gurholt.
Brackets for next week’s State Meet at Nielsen Indoor Stadium in Madison will be determined later today after the seeding process.
Olivia’s teammate, Jordin Popp finished 2nd at #2 Singles while Lincoln’s #1 Doubles tandem of Taylor Peterson and Zylia Kleinfeldt dropped their 1st match of the day.
Coach Stephanie Henschel has requested “special qualifier status” for Jordin, Taylor, and Zylia and should find out tonight if they’re also in the state tournament field.
Homestead of Mequon captured the team title with 48 points with Manitowoc Lincoln finishing 5th with 20 points.
