October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The American Cancer Society estimates that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer within their lifetime.
And because of that, Prevea Health and Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) is reminding people about the importance of getting a mammogram. Prevea Breast Surgeon Dr. Kai Huang says, “There have been many advances in breast cancer treatment over the years that can significantly improve breast cancer survival.”
The healthcare groups say with regular mammograms, breast cancer is more likely treatable when caught early.
Mammograms can also catch some forms of pre-cancer before the development of a tumor.
HSHS hospitals in Sheboygan, Green Bay, and Oconto Falls offer mammogram services.
