Manitowoc Lincoln’s number one doubles team of junior Taylor Peterson and sophomore Zylia Kleinfledt are moving on in The Division One flight of the WIAA State Girls Individual Tennis Tournament in Madison.
They defeated the doubles tandem of Mary Sullivan and Sophie Lin from Notre Dame Academy of Green Bay Thursday afternoon 6-4,6-4.
They improve to 20 and 8 on the season and will play a second-round match tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
Ships Sophomore Jordin Popp has been eliminated in the opening round of the singles draw as she was defeated by Junior Eliza Martin of Monona Grove 6-0,6-0.
Martin moves on to the next round with a record of 22 and 8 while Popp wraps up an excellent season with a mark of 27 and 3, her first as a varsity player.
Meanwhile, Lincoln senior and top overall seed Olivia Minikel drew a first-round bye and is currently taking on Ashwaubenon’s Jordan Domnick, who was a straight set winner over Lily Witwer of
Wausau West earlier today. In Division Two The Roncalli doubles team of Megan and Madison Lamers will battle (Waukesha) Catholic Memorial’s Jenna Ramthun and Maggie Schmitzer.
