The WIAA State Individual Tennis Tournament gets underway in two divisions this morning (October 12th) in Madison.
A total of six athletes from Manitowoc Lincoln and Roncalli will see action in Singles and Doubles play today and tonight at Nielsen Indoor Stadium on the UW Campus.
The schedule includes Jordin Popp of Lincoln competing at 10:30 a.m. against Monona Grove’s Eliza Martin and the Ships number-1 Doubles team of Taylor Peterson and Zylia Kleinfeldt facing Notre Dame’s Mary Sullivan and Sophie Lin at 2:00 this afternoon.
Manitowoc’s Olivia Minikel, with the top seed at #1 Singles, has a first-round bye and meets the winner of Ashwaubenon’s Jordan Domnick & Lilly Wittwer (35-and-1) at 3:30.
And, closing out the first day of state competition for local athletes is a Doubles matchup tonight at 7:15 pitting Roncalli’s Madison and Megan Lamers against Catholic Memorial’s Jenna Ramthun & Maggie Schmitzer.
The tournament continues tomorrow and concludes Saturday with 3rd, 5th, and championship matches.
