The Wisconsin Senate Republicans have rejected the appointment of Manitowoc County Conservationist Jerry Halverson to the Livestock Siting Review Board.
The board is responsible for hearing appeals of local decisions regarding the operation of large farms.
Senate Democrats had supported Halverson’s appointment.
However, state agriculture groups and Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce opposed his appointment due to his past opposition to the statewide livestock citing laws.
The nominees to the board are selected by organizations representing the dairy industry, municipal and county governments, and environmental groups.
