A four-and-a-half-month road project in Manitowoc has been completed.
The nearly $2.8 million reconstruction of Reed Avenue on the city’s north side began earlier this year on May 30th.
City Engineer Greg Minikel says work included re-lining of sanitary sewers, replacement of sanitary laterals and storm sewers, water main work, grading, graveling, and concrete pavement.
The street was also narrowed by a couple of feet which allowed for the installation of the 10-foot-wide multi-use asphalt path on the south side of the road.
Minikel also says in order to maintain one-way traffic, his department had to complete one side entirely before the other side of the road was started.
Although there was an option to close the street entirely, it wasn’t a good option.
The project was approved the by city council and public infrastructure committee earlier this year.
