A local plumbing professional has some advice for homeowners dealing with clogged or slow drains.
Tim Petersen from Maritime Plumbing in Manitowoc was the guest this week on WOMT’s/WCUB’s Welcome Home with Brandon Bartow.
Petersen explains any home or business owner who pours Drano or any other chemicals down their plumbing system should warn the plumber before they start a project.
“Because obviously, you get that stuff on your skin, it irritates, it burns, it causes a rash,” he said.
“We do not recommend any products like that to be used just to clear a drain. If your drain is slowing and you have something in it that we need to clean out with an auger or something like that we do not recommend a lot of different chemicals.”
One option for the homeowner says Petersen is to go underneath the sink and disconnect the trap to clean it.
He also explained that “There are some chemicals that we sell at Maritime Plumbing that work well with urinal drains, floor drains, etc., drains that are hard to access.”
If the homeowner can’t get their drains unclogged, they should contact a plumber before using any of those chemicals.
