Dairy farmers in Wisconsin are taking steps to support the community and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions this year.
Ag Educator Angie Ulness tells us scientists are doing quite a bit to help farmers across the nation.
“In a study at Washington State University, they are using kangaroo feces,” she explained. “They are putting the culture in the simulated stomach of a cow, and it produced acetic acid instead of methane. There’s a lot of things happening in the science world to help reduce the carbon footprint on dairy.”
However, farms in the state have also been making the effort to aid their communities in other ways.
Ulness tells Seehafer News, “This year it’s been a trend to really emphasize the way that dairy, and especially cultured dairy can help with your immune health as we’re entering into the winter months.”
Ulness wants the public to know that a lot of scientists and farmers are looking to advance the industry and provide new products for everyone.
