Two dogs perished while two people were transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation as the result of a house fire on Manitowoc’s southside Tuesday afternoon.
Fire Chief Todd Blaser says the original transmission of an alarm came in around 1:15 p.m. for a kitchen fire at a residence in the 1200 block of South 17th Street.
Upon arrival, crews found an active fire with heavy smoke conditions. The fire was extinguished within minutes.
Both occupants escaped unharmed while the dogs cause of death was due to the smoke conditions.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the blaze appears to have originated in the kitchen and no dollar estimate is currently available.
Assisting on the scene were the Manitowoc Police Department and Manitowoc Public Utilities.
