Manitowoc Public School District Superintendent Jim Feil wrote to families Wednesday that starting on Monday November 6th, free meals will be offered to all students regardless of eligibility.
Feil says that the USDA has approved the district’s waiver request to allow the district to rejoin the Community Eligibility Provision for the remainder of the school year.
Free meals were offered universally to all families during the COVID pandemic and through the end of last school year.
Families were notified last summer that the district would be returning to a free, reduced, and paid school program, raising community concerns that no Manitowoc Public District School Children go hungry.
Feil adds “Taking this all into consideration, I’ve made the decision, with support from our Board of Education, to resume a federal universal school meal program this school year.
My bottom line is that I don’t want any children to go hungry, and our principals and Solutions Teams will work to look for any children who may fall through the gaps to ensure they are fed.”
Breakfast will be provided before school starts and district transportation will arrive in time for children to participate if they wish.
