Popular television personality John Oliver has purchased a billboard in downtown Manitowoc.
Oliver has acquired advertising space to rally support for the New Zealand Bird of the Century contest.
His campaign aims to crown the puteketeke, also known as the Australian-crested grebe, as the top bird.
It’s worth noting that neither John Oliver nor the puteketeke have any direct ties to Manitowoc, but he bought the billboard because “not everyone lives in big cities”.
In addition to Manitowoc, Oliver has displayed billboards in India, Japan, France, Brazil, and London, all in pursuit of a resounding victory in the avian contest.
