Yet another scammer is posing as law enforcement, this time in Outagamie County.
The Sheriff’s Department has reported that a scammer is making calls, claiming to be with the department, and asking for Bitcoin payments for outstanding warrants.
The perpetrator is manipulating the caller ID so the call appears to be coming from the actual department number, but Deputies are warning that this is a scam.
If you receive a call similar to this, whether in Outagamie County or not, you are encouraged to hang up the phone immediately.
If you believe a call may be legitimate, you should still hang up and call the law enforcement agency back at their real number.
Numerous agencies around the area have stated in the past that they will never call you and ask for payment over the phone.
Most agencies require payment to be mailed in or hand-delivered.
