1st District State Senator Andre Jacque of DePere, and northern Manitowoc County representative, says he wished some more things could have come out of the Milwaukee Brewers stadium funding bill.
The bill passed the Wisconsin Senate 22-10 and then by the State Assembly 72-60.
But Jacque says he would have wanted more of an audit of the stadium board plus his constituents called him and said they didn’t like a new extra tax for events like concerts at Am Fam.
He says, unlike the Lambeau Field improvements, the Brewers organization seemed to rely on a subsidy from the state.
“That just a concern that many folks had,” he explained. “Especially given that the lease was not going to expire until 2030. The team said they weren’t going to break the lease so we would have maybe had more time to talk this over but that’s just how it ended up I guess.”
*Jacque voted no on both bills.
The bill now heads to Governor Tony Evers’ desk.
It’s expected that he will sign it.
*We apologize for incorrectly reporting that Sen. Jacque voted yes for the Milwaukee Brewers stadium funding bill. We were notified by his office that he in fact voted no on both. What was reported was factually incorrect and we apologize.
