Streets and homes will soon be lit up with a colorful array of Christmas lights, but as people unpack them, a strand or two is bound to not work.
That and people are transitioning to energy-efficient LED lights, meaning they have to get rid of their old lights.
The Manitowoc County Recycling Center is reminding residents that they do accept unwanted or broken holiday lights for free.
All you have to do is bring them to the Recycling Center Main Office at 3000 Basswood Road between 7:00 and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
All string lights are accepted as well as extension cords. Garland, wreaths, trees, and other lighted decorations will not be accepted though.
Normal light bulbs, including spotlights, compact fluorescents, fluorescent tubes, and incandescent bulbs can be recycled but normal fees apply.
Operations Manager Jon Reisenbuechler tells us that since the Christmas light recycling program started in 2015 over 6800 pounds have been collected.
