Two congressmen are applauding the US National Park Service for making two trail systems that go through Wisconsin a unit of the National Park System.
6th District Representative Glenn Grothman, who represents Manitowoc County, and 2nd District Representative Mark Pocan say the new status of the Ice Age Trail and North Country National Scenic Trail will increase funding and improve maintenance for these Wisconsin-based National Scenic Trails and will include them on the official National Park Service maps.
Grothman says, as a lifelong Wisconsinite, “I’m proud to be from a state with such a beautiful environment, and I’m happy to support this bipartisan effort to ensure the Ice Age Trail has the opportunity to participate as a unit of the National Park system.”
Pocan and Grothman have fought to designate these trails as National Scenic Trails for years, including by introducing legislation last Congress to change their unit status.
