A local hotel on the lakeshore has been given new life after being remodeled over the past year.
Members of The Chamber Manitowoc County and hotel staff held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Inn on Maritime Bay yesterday (December 12th) to recognize the work done to remodel the inside of the hotel.
Mayor Justin Nickels says for a long time, the hotel wasn’t kept up, and the city was wondering if it should be torn down.
But he says when Pat Reilly, a former retired hotel manager and project manager, decided to take over the remodel, the city knew that the hotel would be run well and would be invested in.
Reilly says the end result is amazing.
“And it’s been a great opportunity to return this gem on the lakeshore to the community and return it to its original name of the Inn on Maritime Bay,” she described.
She says the inside of the building was remodeled, including every guest room and every public space, including meeting rooms.
The building is owned by Sun Development, and President of Development Management Chris Mayer says the plan was to restore the building back to being an anchor of the downtown community.
He says a lot of work was done to update what guests want when they are traveling.
He explained the hotel includes “Free Wi-Fi, fast Wi-Fi, a good selection of channels on the TV in the room, a good comfortable bed where you can get a good night sleep, feather and foam pillows, firm mattresses, and really thirsty towels that don’t move water around but absorbs and all those things.”
The project cost several million dollars to do.
Room rates, according to ChoiceHotels.com, run from $104 to $130 a night, depending on when you book your stay.
