The only injuries during the 2023 deer hunting season in Manitowoc County were three homeowners’ pocketbooks.
Sheriff Dan Hartwig says the department didn’t get any calls about injuries during the season, but three homes near where hunters were shooting got struck by bullets.
One of the hunters was identified and was given a ticket for shooting across a highway, which ended up striking a home.
Two other people, who weren’t identified, were in areas of Goodwin east of Highway R and south of Whitelaw.
Hartwig noted that other hunting-related calls were “trespassing complaints and one complaint of a hunter not wearing orange while he was hunting.”
The sheriff reminds hunters to remember where their target is and what’s beyond it.
