The city of Manitowoc and Two Rivers will receive a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
The DNR Urban Forestry Program distributed almost $1.6 million in grants.
An urban forest encompasses trees on public and private property to help keep people cool, remove pollutants from the air, and improve mental health.
Although it’s not known what the funding will go directly toward, Manitowoc is getting $25,000 for Diversifying as a Sustainable Solution to Disease and Insect Impacts, while Two Rivers is getting $25,000 for Standardizing Best Practices and Executing a Tree Management Plan.
The regular grants given to both cities support new, innovative projects to develop sustainable urban and community forestry programs.
