As the end of the year approaches, Wisconsin families are receiving their property tax bills, and a local state legislator is not happy with some of the increases.
On July 5th, Governor Tony Evers used his veto pen to permit school districts to increase property taxes every year for the next 400 years.
Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu tells Seehafer News that the decision is only going to hurt taxpayers.
“These increases will hurt the middle-class and the Wisconsin economy,” he stated. “The state senators committed to holding the line on property taxes and reducing the tax burden on hard-working Wisconsinites.”
Manitowoc residents recently received their bills and saw a total increase of around 14%, a large chunk of that coming from the Manitowoc Public School District’s portion.
