Lakeshore Technical College and Western Governors University have teamed up to give Lakeshore Graduates and staff a more affordable way to get their bachelor’s or master’s degrees.
Thanks to this agreement, students who’ve completed associate degrees in ten Lakeshore programs can transfer their credits to WGU without a problem.
All Lakeshore graduates and employees can also apply for the Community College Partner Scholarship, worth up to $2,500.
Lakeshore President Dr. Paul Carlsen is thrilled about this partnership as it broadens the higher education options for their graduates and employees and meets local workforce needs.
He expressed his gratitude towards WGU for offering this flexible and affordable option.
Lakeshore Technical College educates over 9,000 students annually and offers over 70 programs.
Around 800 students graduate annually.
It has campuses in Clevland, downtown Manitowoc, and downtown Sheboygan. WGU is a non-profit, fully online university that offers instruction for over 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in business, K-12 teacher education, information technology, and health professions, including nursing.
It uses a competency-based educational model, which is also utilized by Lakeshore, that allows students to leverage their previous education and work experience to progress through courses at their own speed and graduate sooner.
Dr. Terrance Hopson, Regional Vice President of Westen Governors University, expressed his pleasure in providing education options to Lakeshore Technical College’s graduating students and staff.
He acknowledged the significant role community colleges play in upskilling the workforce and was happy to provide an affordable and flexible pathway for thousands of Lakeshore area residents who need postsecondary education.
