What started as a theft from a retail store ended with one person dying in a crash.
The Grand Chute Police Department reports that they received a report of a retail theft at a local Fleet Farm just after 2:00 p.m. yesterday (January 3rd), and when they arrived, the suspect began to flee in a vehicle.
Police took chase, with the suspect traveling at a high rate of speed.
Just two blocks from the store, the suspect lost control, hit another car, and crashed into a tree.
The suspect died at the scene, and the two people in the car that was hit by the suspect were taken to a local hospital but are expected to survive.
The Department of Criminal Investigation has been called in to lead the investigation into the incident, with help from the State Patrol, a crime response specialist, and members of the DCI Digital Evidence Unit.
No additional information is being released at this time as it is an active investigation.
