An Eastern Wisconsin Congressman calls a trip to the US-Mexico border eye-opening.
6th District Congressman Glenn Grothman traveled alongside US House Speaker Mike Johnson to Eagle Pass, Texas, last week to see what’s happening with the border crisis.
After getting to speak with members of the Customs and Border Protection agents, saying it’s frustrating for them, especially after he says a record number of over 300,000 crossed the border in the month of December.
According to Grothman, it’s enough people to combine the population of Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Grafton, Cedarburg, Beaver Dam, Menasha, Appleton Mequon, Neenah, Fond du Lac, and Oshkosh.
Not only have the border crossings gone up, but he also says the number of people being deported after committing crimes back is going down.
“This was from an already small amount,” he said. “Remember Donald Trump was criticized for not deporting more criminals, and now we are at a quarter of that.”
He went on to say that the U.S. is “in a state of crisis. More and more people are coming here from all around the globe, and at the same time, we are not deporting troublemakers.”
He says Republicans introduced a bill called the Secure the Boarder Act, which contains a number of provisions that would help at the border by combating illegal immigration and making communities safer.
He says he hopes America wakes up soon because the US can’t survive when the number of people crossing is reaching 3 million.
