JoAnne A. Bartelme, age 91 of Manitowoc, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at The Villas at St. Mary’s Felician Village.
JoAnne was born on July 7, 1932 in Branch, daughter of the late Ben and Agnes (Hoffman) Shaffer. She attended schools in Manitowoc graduating with the class of 1950 from Manitowoc Lincoln High School. She furthered her education at the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology graduating with the class of 1955. JoAnne also studied under Frederick Gibbs at the University of Illinois for Electroencephalographic Technician, being the first trained technician in Manitowoc County. On June 13, 1959 she was married to Robert W. Bartelme at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on April 30, 2016. She was employed as a lab and x-ray technician at Memorial Hospital and then the Manitowoc Health Care Center until her retirement. She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Manitowoc. JoAnne enjoyed music, gardening, traveling to Sam Butcher’s Precious Moments Resorts in the Philippines, and Precious Moment Cruises with her husband. JoAnne was a member Joe’s All Girls Orchestra, 4-H Member and Lamplighter Dance Club.
Survivors include one niece: Lynn Seidl-Babcock, Manitowoc; one nephew: Tom Bartelme, Manitowoc; special friends: Cheryl Hanson, Manitowoc, Sharon (Michael) VanElls, Green Bay, other nieces, nephews and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Ben and Agnes Shaffer; her husband of 56 years: Robert Bartelme; infant brother: Benjamin; brother and sister-in-law: Kenneth (Elaine) Shaffer; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, 928 South 14th Street, Manitowoc. Rev. Dr. Matthew L. Sauer will officiate. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Manitowoc Humane Society, Capitol Civic Center, Peace United Church of Christ in her name.
