Charges have been filed against Leigha Barton, a former village clerk in Monroe County, accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the Village of Milton.
Investigators allege that Barton, who resigned last summer, misappropriated up to 200 thousand dollars during her two-year tenure.
The charges include nine felony counts, such as identity theft and tampering with public records.
Barton claimed she intended to repay the money but lost track.
