There won’t be a candidate who filed paperwork running in Manitowoc County’s 4th District County Board Supervisor seat in this upcoming election.
Jim Brey announced late in December that he would not be running for the seat, saying he wants to stand back a little and observe the board from the outside.
But with the seat being open, the way a person can win is by write-in vote.
Brey says he’s still in the position of not wanting to run for the seat but called the situation interesting.
“I wish somebody would have, because I announced (that I am not running) early enough,” he explained. “That’s why I announced early enough, to have somebody hopefully take out papers and run for that position.”
If Brey would get the most write-in votes, would he take his seat back?
As of right now the Manitowoc alderman says no comment.
“I guess we’ll cross that bridge as we get closer,” he said.
Another person was supposed to file for candidacy, but no signatures were filled before the deadline.
Brey will still run for his seat on the Manitowoc Common Council this year.
He’s served on the council for more than 30 years.
