While traffic crashes were down, traffic tickets were given out, and calls went up in Manitowoc in 2023.
City Police Chief Nick Reimer gave statistics on the WOMT Be My Guest program last Thursday (January 18th).
He says a lot fewer people were involved in crashes, with 1,066, but in 2022, it was 1,182.
Reimer said that number is very low.
“In 2016, we had over 1,400 crashes,” he explained. “We continue to see those dwindle, which is great. Wanna give kudos to those people out there obeying the traffic laws and not getting involved in crashes.”
2,701 tickets were given in 2023, which is up from 2022, where there were only 2,519.
Warnings were about 5,000, which is about average.
Service calls were also up in 2023, with police being called about 33,000 times, while in 2022, there were 29,726.
Reimer says while that seems high, it’s about average compared to previous years.
He also says while Manitowoc is a smaller town, police continue to do a lot to keep the city safe.
