Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers says the state of our state is better than ever, a message he’s said many times before.
During his State of the State address, he talked about the increase in affordable housing, fixing roads, and investing money into Wisconsin’s Dairy industry.
Evers talked about how his administration still wants to do more to stop PFAS in drinking water and continue to provide more mental health services for kids in Wisconsin.
He says he is not giving up on this issue when so many, especially in the LGBTQ community, have attempted suicide.
He wants to create an interagency council on mental health.
“We’re going to develop a statewide mental health action plan to address the root causes of our mental health crisis,” he explained. “Increase awareness and reduce stigma and to build capacity for us to expand access to mental health services statewide.”
He also talked about the 2024 election and the district map changes he wants to see happen after the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled the 2011 maps favored Republicans too much.
“Because when elected officials gerrymander themselves into safe seats, they can comfortably ignore the overwhelming majority of Wisconsinites who support common-sense policies like BadgerCare expansion, red flag laws, and expanding paid family leave which is wrong,” Evers said.
Evers continued saying his administration will protect access to abortion, invest more in workforce development and childcare services, and invest more for all levels of education.
Evers finished the speech saying the state can do big things and last year proved it.
The speech’s response was once again on partisan lines, with Democrats mostly applauding during the speech.
