Residents of Sturgeon Bay have had so many issues receiving mail that they called Congressman Mike Gallagher for help.
Congressman Gallagher issued a news release, where he explained that some residents have been waiting up to three weeks for their mail, and in one case, a veteran hasn’t been getting his prescriptions.
This prompted a letter to the Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, in which Gallagher demanded action.
He asked three questions of the man in charge of the U.S. Postal Service:
- What actions are specifically being taken at the Sturgeon Bay Post Office branch to ensure normal delivery can resume in a timely manner and avoid delays going forward?
- What plans does USPS have in place to help local post offices in rural communities address staffing needs to help ensure timely delivery?
- Are local post offices being asked to prioritize the delivery of third-party packages over traditional mail? If so, what is the USPS’s plan to ensure that this does not cause delays in traditional mail delivery?
He reiterated that, especially in rural areas, the delivery of mail is vital for citizens to receive medication and bills and to run small businesses.
