The Two Rivers Family Swim Center wants to build a brand-new pool.
During the Two Rivers Work Session yesterday (January 29th), members of the swim center gave a presentation asking the city council for their support in running the pool, while they would do the fundraising.
Christine Thelen with the swim center says the pool, which would be open to the public, would allow more families to be able to swim.
The project includes demolishing the old pool and building a brand-new one.
Thelen says they would want to form a committee “To help design the pool, design the pool, and help budget for the pool,” she explained. And we would also look at bringing on a campaign manager to help get those companies that were not thinking of that are in our campaign plan.”
City Manager Greg Buckley says there should also be a referendum so residents can voice their input before fundraising gets underway.
Questions from the council included whether the pool can be moved, and what happens if this idea doesn’t get off the ground.
Councilmember Bonnie Shimulunas isn’t convinced, telling the council, “It’s not that I’m against it, it’s just the timing and everything.”
According to the swim center, between $1.8 and $2.2 million would need to be raised to build the new pool.
Council President Adam Wachowski told the committee the next thing to do is to talk with the Parks and Recreation committee before moving forward.
