Margaret “Peggy” Greenwood formerly of Two Rivers, died peacefully with her beloved daughter and daughter-in-law Irene at her side at the Manitowoc Health & Rehabilitation Center on Sunday Jan 28, 2024.
Peggy was born July 17, 1925, in Crystal Lake, MI, daughter of the late Peter and Rose (Kakes) Steinberg Sr. After the death of her mother, Peggy at age 3 along with her infant brother Robert came to live with her maternal grandmother: Anna Kakes of Mishicot. Peggy attended the one room schoolhouse known as the Pleasant View School until 8th grade. She, along with many aunts and uncles that also resided in the home, helped with the farm & household chores. Peggy entered the workforce at an early age, including many local factories. She met her husband Raphael Greenwood “The Handsome Sailor” in Two Rivers in 1944 and the rest is history. They were married March 24, 1945, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot. Raphael preceded her in death on June 14, 2008. After her retirement, Peggy enjoyed private cleaning for professional individuals, due to her meticulous standards. Peggy had a special name for one of her clients whom she nicknamed “Picky Picky”.
Peggy loved life to the fullest! She enjoyed company, especially family. She always made sure you stayed for a cup of coffee, a snack, or a meal before you left. As you drove away Peggy would be in the window waving Bye, Bye! She was the hardest working woman ever! She could do or fix anything. She was never idle. Peggy was the smartest woman we knew. More common sense than the average person. She loved to dance and was hooked on watching “Polka, Polka” and “Spin the wheel”. We cherish the many wonderful memories we made. She was my mother… my best friend.
Unfortunately, dementia raised its ugly head, and we were fortunate enough to have found the loving caring’ Manitowoc Health & Rehab Center to entrust our precious mother. She made many friends with the staff and residents. Everyone knew “Peggy” and loved her. We looked forward to Bingo every Tuesday and working on puzzles until we forgot what time it was! I hated to leave.
