A Manitowoc man has been sentenced for the shooting and killing of Malachi Moore in 2021.
21-year-old Joshua Walcott will serve a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 25 years. He was also given an extra 66 years for other charges, including felony bail jumping, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and two counts of 2nd-degree sexual assault.
Several victim impact statements were read by Moore’s mother, father, aunt, and sister.
They talked about how heartbroken they were with Malachi’s death and that Walcott should not be shown mercy.
Walcott’s mother said that Joshua is not the monster prosecutors painted him to be and shares empathy for Moore’s death.
Walcott himself called Malachi and his brother a friend. Judge Jerilyn Dietz called the situation truly tragic but also said that Walcott made a tough situation at a Two Rivers home where he and Malachi hung out at worse.
Walcott was convicted of the homicide in December.
