Caleb Schawn, a student at Reedsville High School, has been chosen as one of only two students to represent Wisconsin as a Youth Advocate in the esteemed Youth Advocate Program sponsored by the YMCA of the USA.
Caleb’s selection reflects his years-long involvement and achievement in the local YMCA Youth in Government program and his commitment to making a positive impact on society.
The Youth Advocate Program itself is a four-month program that culminates with Caleb participating in YMCA National Advocacy Days in Washington D.C. starting Sunday (February 10th) to meet with members of Congress and advocate for policy solutions in three primary areas of focus: youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
He’ll be advocating primarily for support of rural development and infrastructure, including healthcare clinics, hospitals, and childcare centers.
In a news release, Caleb states, “The priority strikes home, so I’m really trying to promote it as much as possible.”
He adds, “It’s an opportunity to help me explore and advocate for topics that I’m passionate about and make a difference, even if it means a little at a time.”
YMCA National Advocacy Days run through next Wednesday, February 14th.
