The Manitowoc Public School District is seeing some positive impacts after implementing the “Success for All” curriculum.
Superintendent Jim Feil said on the WCUB Breakfast Club that there have been back-to-back quarter increases in the reading proficiency level, which includes 6% in the 1st quarter and 10% in the second.
Feil says it’s really a team effort.
“To have those back-to-back quarterly gains, you know that I’m going to say it again once we get the third quarter results because this is very promising,” he explained.
Feil says there isn’t an update in the reading scores without a trained, effective teacher in the classroom and without some parent involvement, which is increasing in the district.
But the students’ voices are also trying to be heard.
The superintendent says a non-voting student representative will attend the board meetings in the future.
“What’s important to understand how do they see some things,” he described. “We’re just considering they’re perspective when we’re making decisions that are impacting them.”
The next school board meeting will take place next month.
