Joan M. Doolan, age 98, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at her residence.
Joan was born on May 26, 1925 at Manitowoc. She was the daughter of the late Max and Verna Skladzien Jagodensky. She was educated in the Manitowoc School System graduating with the class of 1943 from Lincoln High School. On September 4, 1948 she married John “Duke” W. Doolan at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death December 26, 2020. They had the honor of celebrating 72 years of marriage. Joan was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, lifelong member of the St. Clair Society and the former Christian Women’s Club. Joan was also a member and volunteer of the Maritime Museum, former docent and member of the Rahr West Museum, member of the Manitowoc County Historical Society, Friends of the Library, Concerned Hearts Club, and volunteer coordinator of the former Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Joan was also a pioneer of the Wisconsin Bell Pioneers of America. She was in past years on the development volunteer committee of Holy Family Memorial Medical Center. During World War II she served as a nurses aid at Holy Family Hospital. Joan was a loving and compassionate wife and mother. She was an avid gardener and had an exceptional love for the family greenhouse and gardens which brought her great joy.
She is survived by her son, Tom Doolan, Manitowoc, nephew Nick Ellig, along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Verna Jagodensky, husband, John “Duke” Doolan, sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Richard Ellig, three sisters-in-law, Helen Doolan, Florence Doolan, and Margaret (Howard) Fischer.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev Matthew Colle. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 10 a.m. Following the funeral service a luncheon will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home.
