While some Two Rivers residents are in favor of more development, they don’t want certain buildings by the river.
Several residents spoke at last Monday’s city council meeting against a conventional use permit for a new storage facility that would be built by B+B Storage.
Resident Susan Robitaille says calls the conditional use permit “a waste. It does not move us forward. It actively moves us in the wrong direction by wasting our limited downtown and riverfront property.”
Resident Mark Bintner also says, “I’m against it but I would suggest we do is delay, dig into it more, and figure out a way that we can leverage this situation and not simply flip to turn to the approval of a building development of this type.”
Council President Adam Wachowski said this issue was denied by the city’s planning and zoning commission because of a lack of a stormwater plan, not enough room for emergency vehicles, and there’s a city ordinance issue.
Olivia Vander Heiden with Alliance Construction, the group that wants to build the storage units, says the development is intended to make the property better because of how unappealing it looks right now.
That could include adding a mural or something to make the property better.
Her statement still fell on deaf ears because the council voted unanimously to deny the permit for the building.
City Manager Greg Buckley says this could lead to more discussion about the project in the future.
