A local assistant police chief will be honored later this month with an award.
Two Rivers Police Chief Ben Meinnert says Assistant Chief Melissa Weisner won the Woman Police Officer of the Year Award through the Wisconsin Association of Women Police.
Meinnert nominated Weisner because of her being the highest-ranking female officer in the history of the Two Rivers Police Department as well as being the first female investigator and Detective Lieutenant.
She also worked with several Wisconsin legislators to create a law to make it easier for first responders to seek help with trauma for their trained peers who have communication protected by privilege.
Meinnert says he highly recommends Weisner because she excelled in 2023, and consistently performs above and beyond her normal duties.
An award ceremony for her will be held at the Radisson Hotel in La Crosse on February 27th, where she will receive the award.
