The Senate voted earlier this week to accept the maps the governor drew, which will cause major changes in our area, and many towns, cities, and counties in Eastern Wisconsin will have new people representing them in Madison if they are signed into law.
Starting with the Senate, 1st District Senator Andre Jacque will represent an area where he doesn’t live, as the changes would cut De Pere out of the 1st District.
The entirety of De Pere, along with Green Bay, Ashwaubenon, Allouez, and the west side of the Town of Rockland, will be covered by the 30th District, which will no longer run up the western shore of the Bay of Green Bay.
The 1st District will, however, cover more of Manitowoc County, specifically the north and western portions, and more of Brown County. Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu will also have a new coverage area in the 9th District, as he loses the west side of Manitowoc County and east Calumet County, except the portion of the City of Kiel that is a part of that county.
He does gain the west side of Sheboygan County, a section of Northeast Fond du Lac County, and his District would extend up along the Lake Michigan shoreline to Two Rivers.
As for the Assembly Districts, 25th District Representative Paul Tittl is losing the west side of Manitowoc County and the east side of Calumet County, as the District would cover the Lake Michigan Shoreline from the Town of Two Rivers south to Mosel, plus the Town of Meeme.
Representative Shae Sortwell of Two Creeks is losing Two Rivers in his constituency, but his District will now cover the entire southern portion of Brown County.
Sheboygan County is also getting an overhaul, with District 26 being downsized.
Representative Terry Katsma will no longer be representing Oostburg, where he resides, as the 26th District will only cover the west side of the Town of Sheboygan, the City of Sheboygan, and the Town of Wilson.
It is losing the southern portion of the county, which is going to District 27 Representative Amy Binsfeld.
In fact, she will be representing the majority of the county as well as the city of Kiel, and the town of Schleswig in Manitowoc County, and the northeast corner of Fond du Lac County.
She is, however, losing the section of the Lake Michigan shoreline she currently represents.
