The Better Business Bureau is warning business owners that a scam could be affecting them.
Jim Temmer with the BBB says some businesses have been getting fake government compliance notices from the “United States Business Regulations Department” that say you need to comply with a federal filing requirement.
The scammers will ask for information about the businesses by having owners enter information through a link or QR code and then use the information to do bad stuff.
Temmer says if you get one of these letters, don’t reply.
“If you have any doubt about it again, remember any government website has to end in dot gov,” he described. “So if it says ‘department of businesses gov dot com’, no go.”
Any government impostor scams to the FBI.
The BBB also always recommends looking for grammar, spelling, and formatting errors in emails and mailings.
