Manitowoc Lincoln High School is looking to add a new job for school security.
Principal Micah Hoffman told the Manitowoc Public School Board Tuesday (February 13th) that a new Security Monitor would help with building security and student engagement.
Hoffman says there isn’t a real secure entrance into Lincoln, so once people are buzzed in and checked in by the main office, they can go wherever they want.
So, the Security Monitor would buzz people in and out of the building by asking students to hold up their ID to a door camera at the Student Parking Lot entrance and then be let in.
They would also be able to monitor security cameras around the school, and if an issue arises, they would notify the right staff.
“So, it’s just going to let us really actively monitor what’s going on in our building,” he explained. “It will happen all of the time, and with student engagement, so we know what’s going on.”
Board Vice President Matthew Phipps thinks it’s a good idea.
“You know that school security has been an ongoing concern and a public concern for many years now,” he described. “And you know, one thing that we learned when the subject came up was fathers, vets, and retired law enforcement to have a job like that.”
The board approved a motion to investigate creating the position.
The position would pay between $16 and $19 an hour, and the lucky candidate would have to work during the school year.
