Students have the opportunity to travel to Manitowoc’s sister-city, Kamogawa, Japan, through the Student Exchange Program once again.
It’s coordinated through the Manitowoc International Relations Association for Manitowoc-area high schoolers and gives them the trip of a lifetime to see Japanese culture, the beauty of Japan’s mountains and oceanside, daily life in Japan with a host family, and the opportunity to make lifelong relationships abroad.
For a chance to go, students must apply by writing an essay and getting two letters of recommendation.
After applying, they will be contacted for a personal interview with the International Relations Association student exchange program committee.
It’s the student’s responsibility for round-trip airfare from Chicago to the Tokyo-Narita Airport and will cost $2,400 plus traveler’s insurance, U.S Passport fees, and personal spending money while abroad.
The relationship between Manitowoc and Kamogawa began in 1993 with the Sister Cities program.
Applications are available now but are due by Sunday, March 10th. Any questions can be directed to Tourism Director Courtney Hanson.
