Two cities and the village of Elkhart Lake are getting grants from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to help with affordable housing and attracting workers.
A press release from the WEDC says a $200,000 Idle Site Redevelopment or ISR grant for Elkhart Lake will help the village prepare a site for two housing developments, one with 50 rental units, plus affordable housing for seasonal workers, veterans, and people with disabilities.
Village Clerk Jessica Reilly says, “We’re a resort community with many hospitality industries, so we’re hoping this will help many of those employees struggling to find a place to live.”
Since the program started in 2013, the WEDC has awarded nearly $22.3 million in ISR grants for 47 projects expected to generate more than $167 million in capital investment.
The city of Ladysmith is also getting an ISR grant, while the city of Rhinelander is getting a Community Development Investment grant.
