The city of Manitowoc is telling residents about the 2023 storm sewer separation and other public utilities programs.
The 2023 annual report for the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System or MS4 Permit describes what the city did in several categories, including public education and outreach, public involvement, construction, pollution prevention, and some proposed changes.
For outreach, the report said in 2023, there were 4 stormwater-related press releases, 88 stormwater facility educational flyers mailed, and 55 letters sent to residents for Brush and Rake clean up.
There were also some stenciled inlets with Manitowoc Lutheran High School and 512 stainless steel stormwater marker inlets with the Lakeshore Natural Resources Partnership.
Public involvement included several committee meetings promoting storm drain stenciling projects and beach and river clean-up, and they approved two stormwater maintenance agreements with the Dramm Corporation and on our Seehafer Broadcasting property.
There were 22 construction sites in the city where site inspections and erosion enforcement were worked on, while for pollution, there were several projects like street sweeping, applying road salt, and deicers only, when necessary, among others.
5,000 feet of new storm pipes were installed last year as well.
For some proposed changes, the city has been working with Strand Associates to complete a city-wide stormwater and Hydraulic study for three areas of flooding.
They are also looking to replace an old street sweeper with a new one.
