A local Republican State Senator is calling for the state legislature to override some vetoes made by Democratic Governor Tony Evers.
First District Senator Andre Jacque of De Pere says that Republicans want the state budget surplus returned to citizens.
“Years of prudent Republican fiscal management have created a surplus of over three billion dollars,” he explained to Seehafer News. “This is your money and I have always believed it should be returned to you. Unfortunately, Governor Evers thinks your money belongs in Madison, waiting to grow government spending.”
Jacque also called for an override of a veto of a measure to benefit retirees.
“Evers also vetoed over $1500 in tax savings for the average retired senior citizen,” he said “93% of retirees would no longer pay any state income taxes under our plan.”
The state legislature is not currently in session.
