Wisconsin has decriminalized the use of a drug testing strip designed to detect substances potentially lethal when combined with fentanyl.
Governor Tony Evers approved the legislation permitting the use of xylazine testing strips.
Though not classified as an opioid by the Centers for Disease Control, xylazine can pose life-threatening risks upon ingestion with no known reversal.
The CDC reported instances of xylazine involvement in some of the 1,800 drug overdoses recorded in Wisconsin in 2022.
