Although the weather has put up a fight, Two Rivers Softball has hit the ground running.
With a fresh team of old players and new, the Head Coach for the Two Rivers Girls Softball team, Kirk Shillcox, is excited to get started.
He has been coaching at the school for the last two years.
However, he has sixteen years of experience under his belt thus far.
Despite a lack of seniors, Coach Shillcox is excited to see the development of skills in such a young team as he sets goals for both himself and them.
“This year, my goal is to exceed where we finished last year,” he said. “We finished 7-15 last year. We’re a young team, no seniors. We have six freshman, six sophomores, and four juniors. For me it’s just getting them to buy into my philosophy of sacrifice, commitment and learning to be good communicators on and off the field”.
Though communication is still something to work on, Junior Kiana Luebke has a positive outlook on the team’s ability to improve it this season.
“Our strength in communication is getting there. It’s growing,” she explained. “We still kind of struggle a little bit, but it’s getting better.”
Sophomore Rilee Timm went on to emphasize what the sport means to the team and how it affects her.
She stated that everyone’s drive is a large reason why she continues to compete in the sport.
“We all have the same goal,” she said. “It brings me a lot of joy, and it’s something that doesn’t wear me out. I can always look forward to doing it”.
The Two Rives Softball team will take on Roncalli on tomorrow (April 4th) at home.
