The Track and Field season is still in the early goings, but the coach of the Two Rivers squad says she is optimistic about what the season will bring.
Head Girls Track Coach Amy Gallagher tells Seehafer News that her athletes are highly committed to the sport, on and off the track.
“We have some very dedicated athletes that really I have to make sure that they are taking a few days off each week, and we have some that don’t think about it from the first day it ends until the first day it starts,” she said. “I would say especially on the girl’s side, we have a large amount of girls that spend a lot of time in the weight room and spend a lot of time outside getting some miles in depending on what their needs are, but they’re pretty dedicated.
After graduating a lot of seniors this last year, Coach Gallagher looks forward to seeing the girls’ continued drive to compete.
“What’s most exciting to me is the preparation that a lot of these girls did, so I’m really excited to see some of their hard work pay off,” she explained. “It might not come out in the form of winning their events, but they are certainly going to have a lot of personal success achieving personal bests and placing higher than they think”.
Although track can be a very individualized sport, Gallagher always sets a goal for the team to do well at the conference meet when the time comes.
“On that day, everybody matters. They know every point matters, and they know they’re not out. They’re just competing for themselves,” she said. “They are competing for the sake of the team, and they know that if they let a place go, they are letting their team down, so that’s where we put our focus, and I think that really brings the team together.”
The Raiders hosted an EWC Quadrangular meet yesterday, where Kylie Kakes took home gold in the 100 meters and 200-meter races and in the long jump while also being a part of the winning 4×100 relay with teammates Jasmine Lor, Quinn McGinty, and Merenda Lee.
The girls 4×400 relay team of Sophia Soukup, Louise Kroscher, Brooklyn Kieselhorst, and Breanne Kulpa also brought home a win, as did Mikayla Van Wychen in the triple jump.
The guys who picked up wins were Marquarius Lee in the 300 hurdles, the 4×100 relay team of Chase Matthias, Tyson Yang, Kaden Kakes, and Collin Phillips, Christian Pyles in the Shot Put, High Jumper Bergen Schmid, Kaden Kakes in the Pole Vault, and Dayton Glandt in the long jump.
In fact, the Raiders swept the podium in the long jump, with Yang and Lee taking second and third.
They are all scheduled to be back in competition Thursday in Mishicot.
