The Haven is looking into starting a shared housing program.
While speaking with The Haven’s Executive Director Michael Etheridge on the Hello Lakeshore Podcast, he announced a new shared housing program that is looking to be done in the month of May.
The shared housing program will begin this month with leasing agreements having been set, and three potential residents are ready to move in.
It is a 6-month program designed to help individuals practice living independently, however, it will also give individuals a good track record of rental history to help them with a smoother transition into permanent housing.
The program aims to help reduce returns to homelessness, with reoccurrence rates being at around 8%-10% at this time, with an aftercare program available.
Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry has put in $50,000 worth of work with seven contractors participating, as well as the Two River Rotary selecting The Haven to receive proceeds from their auction dinner, donating $13,000 that will go towards furnishing the home completely.
The Haven will also be hosting a brat fry in June that will be in conjunction with the Garden Fair Extraordinaire with a specialty burger called “The Haven Burger,” a burger made up of a brat patty and a regular burger patty.
This event will take place at Washington Park in Manitowoc on June 8th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
